Hoh Rain Forest

The Hoh Rain Forest, a world heritage site, is a 2 hour 84 mile drive west and south on US 101 from Port Angeles. About 15 miles south of Forks take the Hoh Road inland 18 miles to the vistor center. Two short trails start behind the visitor center: the Hall of MOsses Trail and the Spruce Nature Trail. This is an enchanted land. Sitka spruce, western hemlock, and western red cedar, measuring up to 25 feet in circumference., tower 300 feet in the air. Club moss and licorice ferns drape the conifers and bigleaf maples, suffusing the air with green. You may see a Roosevelt elk, members of the largest heard in the nation, or hear their eerie bugle.

Hurricane Ridge

A must-see of the Olympic National Park, Hurricane Ridge is an easy 4-minute drive each way. The day lodge and many trails offer breathtaking views of the glacier-clad peaks of the Olympic Mountains, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and alpine meadows. Numerous trails ranging from easy to very difficult, make it possible for all people to enjoy the area's beauty. One can take a picnic lunch and spend the day at Hurricane Ridge.

Lake Crescent & Marymere Falls

Lake Crescent is a 12-mile long crystal clear lake located 17 miles west of Port Angeles on Highway 101. The glacier-carved lake offers swimming, boating and fishing. Marymere Falls is a mostly level one mile hike from Storm King Ranger station. The average round trip walk time through the forest of moss covered trees is about 1.5 hours. The Pyramid Mountain Trail reached from the North Shore Road offers an excellent view of Lake Crescent, Mt. Storm King and the blue-green slopes of Aurora Ridge. One can also hike along the north side of the lake on the Spruce Railroad Trail. There are numerous places around the lake to enjoy a picnic lunch.

Sol Duc Area

Just west of Lake Crescent on Highway 101 is the Sol Duc Valley Road. The approximate 12 mile drive winds through the valley. An area of interest along the way is the Salmon Cascades. Here after the first hard rains of early fall, you'll find salmon hurling against the forces of white water rapids to reach their spawning grounds up river. The Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort has three mineral pools and a fresh water pool. Soaking in the hot mineral pools is a great way to relax those sore muscles after hiking all day. The resort also has dining and a small gift shop. A short drive past the resort and campgrounds is the trailhead to the spectacular Sol Duc Falls. Several trails take off from the Sol Duc Falls Trail taking you up into the Seven Lakes Basin.
